Jake Morgenstern has been hurt by his ex-wife. He doesn’t trust women and wants nothing to with them because they are all like her in his mind. He hires an architect to build a house on his ranch land. At the time he thinks he hires a man but when the architect shows up he is shocked and angry that she’s a woman. Her mother tells her everything is wrong with her. She covers herself in large shabby clothes, wears her hair up tight, and even changes her eye color with contacts. She doesn’t want anyone to see the real her because she just isn’t good enough. The passion and attraction between Jess and Jake is explosive! I loved the chemistry between these characters and the fact that their love was so explosive made it even better. They were perfect for each other and everyone around them knew it except them. It was fantastic to see Jake let his guard down and Jess become more comfortable in her own skin. The story was flawed with multiple misunderstandings and It became almost repetitive. I really enjoyed it but was a little frustrated by the midway point. I could have handled a misunderstanding or two but I think the couple lacked communication too much This story moved at a nice even pace. It allowed the relationship between Jess and Jake to build up over time. It makes their love seem more believable and I think it makes the couple seem more relatable. One thing I hate in romance novels is instant love or love at first sight. Fortunately this writer does a great job telling the story at just the right pace to keep you interested. Aubrianna Hunter is a wonderful writer. The story had a nice flow to it and I was interested from the very first page. Her writing is beautiful and extremely detailed to a fault at some points in the book. I loved that I could see everything in my head that she had written. I could imagine what the ranch looked like, what Jakes house looked like, even what the new house was going to look like but at one point the author was describing Jess’s closet. There was just too much time and detail wasted on her clothing altogether. The description just went on and on until I was so bored I had to start skimming over that page. Other than that I really loved Hunter’s detailed writing. The couple on the cover looks nice and I really like the background. The biggest issue I have with this cover is that Jake doesn’t match his description in the book. In the book it says he’s really tall and over 250 pounds. Even when Jess has heels on she is supposed to be significantly shorter than he is. The book states that he has to bend down to dance with her. I don’t see that in this cover. As you can see she is almost as tall as he is and that man on the cover is a cute guy but is not nearly as buff as Jake is supposed to be. He definitely doesn’t weight 250 pounds. In my opinion this cover is a really nice cover but it just doesn’t match the story. I would like to see the details in the story changed to match the cover rather than changing the cover itself. There were some wonderful characters in this book. I loved Marsha, Jakes housekeeper. She was a super sweet lady and really cared for Jake in a motherly way. I would have liked to know more about her. Jess’s family seemed dreadful and even though their words and actions really damaged the way Jess saw herself she said time and time again that they were good people and allowed them to walk all over her. I didn’t think they were very nice people and I didn’t like them even though they were never really present in the story until the very end. The little bit of time that we got to see Jake’s parents I loved them! I would have loved for them to be home more during the story. They were both warm loving people with a good sense of humor. I would have enjoyed seeing them form a loving relationship with Jess especially since she lacked that from her own family. As far as Jake and Jess go they were both acceptable as far as main characters go. Jake made some big mistakes and treated Jess badly but it was understandable that he was so jaded. I really liked his possessiveness but he seemed to go overboard. By the end of the story I understood Jake and really wanted him to get his HEA. This book is a great read. This is the first book that I have ever read by this author but I will definitely be on the lookout for more from her in the future.

Of course Jess is going to let professionalism slip a notch and give him a piece of her mind making a well-aimed threat of her own. She’s right of course and he relents grudgingly. Gradually the frumpy look is replaced and Jake is fighting her attraction for all he’s worth and being a right ass while he’s at it. At least the author didn’t make Jess into a submissive wilting flower, she fights back. It started out good then got a little sidetracked with too many close calls and silly little misunderstandings. One of my pet peeves with any romance particularly in contemporary romance are older virgins. Jess is 29 years old, closer to 30. Lack of self-confidence and chasing her career etc etc aren’t good enough reasons. We're not in the dark ages when women were cloistered and virtue used as a highly marketable product. There’s 365 days in a year x's that by the number of days since Jess gained sexual maturity, that’s an awful lot of days repressing a deeply ingrained and natural human instinct. Then to compound it Jess is a virgin, even to herself! Why romance authors think sexually experienced men while repressing a woman's natural sexuality makes for engaging reading completely escapes me. I don't buy it. Never have. In the end it was Jess's fighting spirit that kept me reading, she took no crap from him. Atta girl. And what's up with the cover? It threw me completely. At first glance it looked like a military or a Lara Croft Tomb Raider type novel but the story itself is based predominantly at a working ranch. Whats more Jake is huge, he has to physically bend his frame to kiss Jess. I see little bending required in this cover.

This story just couldn't hold my interest. The H is mean to the h as soon as they meet. In turn the h gives the H attitude b/c she is a strong independent woman. Then blah, blah, blah...boring.

Okay story and writing, but the H/h interactions (beyond sex) are a little thin. Once they start having sex, the author no longer describes any of their time together other than the sex. Well, he was such an ass, he should have apologized just to be a decent person! It took his mommy to convince him to apologize. And then the heroine did the cliched thing and said that it was partially her fault. Ugh! She did not do ANYTHING to deserve (view spoiler)[him calling her a WHORE other than giving him her virginity at the old age of 29!! And this was all caused because of the skank??? (hide spoiler)] . In the end, we just don't see enough of the hero - other than during sex - to make up for his idiotic behavior. Also, I am sick and tired of the plot where the hero is betrayed by ONE woman and takes it out on all women for the rest of his life, including treating the heroine like shit. Grow a pair! Oh! And the plot of the GORGEOUS heroine who is insecure about her looks, but all the men want her. Please!!!! Not only has it been done to death, but it is totally unrealistic! (And the heroine's mother starts out as a total bitch, and by the end of the story she seems to be fairly normal. But we never even really see her, so there is no explanation for that huge change.) Oops. I realized that I didn't explain what I liked about the story - why I gave it 3 stars. Notwithstanding the hero, the heroine's insecurity, and the bi-polar mother, it was a cute, light read. And I did enjoy the hero's possessiveness and jealousy. If only he weren't such a tool.

Being the black sheep, she breaks away and pursues a career in architecture in the great state of Texas. Jess suffers from severe body image issues. She wears boxy, unflattering clothing to hide her figure and disguises the real color of her eyes with contact lenses. Of course, she is the typical virgin. Untouched and never had a very serious relationship. Sigh. I really wish writers would stop doing this. Why is it so horrible for a woman to have a sexual past? Oh, well. Jake Morgenstern is a divorced rancher. He meets Jess when he calls her firm to request "the best architect" money can buy. Oh, did I fail to mention he is a millionaire? Of course he is. Why wouldn't he be? Jake has serious trust issues when it comes to women. The burned child fears the fire and all. So needless to say when they meet sparks start to fly. Initially, they hate each other. But me thinks they doth protest too much. The barbed remarks quickly turn into attraction and the rest, I assume, you can figure out for yourself. The book isn't big on originality. But I have read worse. My main gripe is with the lemony scenes. There is way too much sheathing going on. He dips his fingers into her sheath. Her sheath contracts around him., etc. Is that even the correct usage of sheath? The book moves quickly and comes to HEA ending. It is a stand alone book. There is no cliffhanger. However, I can see how this has the possibility of turning into a sequel with some of the other characters mentioned. Overall I give it two stars.

I have to admit, I loved this book. I didn't think I would because I've never much been in to the cowboy type but let me tell you, I am SOLD! on the idea of a strong, rough, tough, sexy as sin rancher! The cover of this book did absolutely nothing for me, let me just throw that out there. And, since we are on the topic of the cover, let me tell you, the man pictured on the cover is definitely not how the sexy Jake is portrayed in the book and in my mind's eye either! The tension at the beginning of the book between Jake and Jess is exactly that, tension. In fact,Aubrianna Hunterdid such a great job at expressing their tension and damn-near hatred for each other that you can almost feel it radiating off the page. As the story progresses and Jake and Jess are spitting back and forth hurting each other, again, you can feel the pain and turmoil each character is feeling and it's a great effect when an author has this ability to make their readers feel so much emotion along with the characters. The very, very end of the book as it all 'unfolds', it is a bit like a wham! bam! thank you ma'am! but it is done with elegance so you don't really know it's happening until after it's happened and you're left with a feeling of contentment and you just sigh because it was over and all ended-well. And that bitch, Bethany! let me tell you, if I found her walking on the streets, after what she did and the pain she caused over her lies, I'd slice-a-bitch. Just sayin' Great book! The sex scenes were not raunchy at all but passionate and after the first couple mild-to-moderate descriptions of sex, it was later just summarized but truly, it works well for the book and the setting, as well as the characters. Happy Readings.

Jess, is confident in her career but hides herself under ill-fitting clothing due to body issues. Some of the situations stretch belief, for instance Jess is a virgin at the age of 29. When Jess and Jake give in to their attraction it actually takes weeks for them to "do the deed" working up to it with a lot of kissing and foreplay. That did seem to drag out a bit much. The characters are not perfect. Jake in particular could caveman-like. There was a somewhat predictable rift caused by Jake's trouble-making former girlfriend. He was a do-do head to believe her and made some pretty hurtful remarks to Jess. He also needed to grovel a bit more considering how long he took to apologize. Still, I can honestly say I liked both Jess and Jake and believed in their HEA. The secondary characters were great too, especially Mike and Cody who I would love to see get their own stories. Recommended.

Apologies to the great Diana Palmer, but honestly, this is soooo much a wannabe DP that it's scary. The (no lie) 29 year old virgin with body issues. The millionaire rancher who hates women. The storyline right out of the Harlequin Machine, but not quite as good. The cover models do not even vaguely resemble the characters. I'm just glad I got this for nearly free. DNF

Thinks the Heroine is frumpy and dowdy initially, but dick still perks up 3. Married previously to a cheating spouse, for all his self-awareness does not realize this, not devastated by this though as he did not really love his wife. 4. Suspects all women of being cheaters 5. Highly possessive, alpha male probably used to carrying a club in the by gone era 6. Gives Heroine stupendous orgasms and runs away so he doesn't overwhelm her delicate sensibilities 7. Viciously attacks heroine with name calling, believing lies told by an ex who he know is desperate to get back with him 8. Mom goes on the attack path and calls her figure trashy and whore like and encourages her to wear shroud like garments and contact lenses from the time she is 14. Of course Hero breaks her out of her rut, gives her confidence while simultaneously breaking her heart. Hero and Heroine get married and parents get together without a murmur and everyone is happy. Even though the book is full of cliches, I did read it fully and did not take too many breaks. It works well for its genre as you go in expecting exactly what you get. It’s a short, quick smutty read and while I will not re-read it or go hunting for something similar, It still helped pass time.

Cute Stop! You might like this book. It just wasn't my thing. So, before you decide whether or not to buy it, think about these questions: 1) Do you love very sweet love stories with no violence, BDSM, or kink? 2) Do you prefer a story written in third person? 3) Is it OK if the pace of the story is a bit predictable? If you've answered yes to one or more of these questions, you will probably really enjoy this book.

From beginning to end I was sucked it, even with the secondary characters. I did not notice many editing errors, the flow was smooth, the dialog and descriptions were dead on. I was very happy that even though there are plenty of cowboys there was not of that overused cowboy nonsense that makes you gag after a while (howdy ma'am, way overused slang, gentlemanly to the point of nausea type thing). The sex scenes were done in a romantic way, but still great detail. I liked how the "V" card was dealt with. Great read that I would highly recommend to anyone who has a secret desire for alpha men on a ranch(or not so secret)!

That was just glossed over and they were an integral part of her and why she hid her true self, so to be able to see them interact would have made this a much better read.

The story leads on an amazing roller coaster of sexual tension with an outcome that is sure to be pleasing. Just when you think you got the story figured out, a mis-communication and missed opportunity climaxes the story. Get ready to fall in love with not only the main characters, but the supporting cast. It is easy to visualize all of the scenes in this book, and by the end, you, just as I, will long for more from Jake & Jess.

Such a good book. Jake is a grumpy, hot big country man. He was married once, and treated so badly that loving again was hard. When Jess comes into his life as the architect hired to design and build his house, he fights the attraction scared of his strong feelings towards her so quickly. These two fight, loud and often. But everyone can see the chemistry between them. Throughout the book they fall in love. There is a little problem caused by a jealous local woman after Jake, but it all works ou Such a good book. Loved the other characters, especially Mike and Colt, and wouldn't mind reading their story if one is ever done. Good book you will enjoy.

I'll admit that I started off hating Jake in this book. He was jerk that thought just because Jess was a women that she couldn't build a home. I also hated that he was pig headed and didn't think that a women could have friendship with a man unless they were sleeping together not to mention that he just doesn't trust women period but he listened to Bethany knowing she had a thing for him. Jess on the other hand I liked from the very beginning. Shes a fighter and didn't take crap when it came to I'll admit that I started off hating Jake in this book. I also liked that we were able to see her come out of her shell as the book progress and stop trying to hide who she really was. A great book with a happy ending! 4 stars

Such a fantastic story! Loved Jess and Jake, it was refreshing to have a couple with such passion (and not just for sex) and...he is a cowboy...so freaking hot!! Sorry girlie moment over...I have a thing for cowboys and men who ride, and yes I mean horses although... Sorry back to my review. The story had me gripped more or less from the start, although I had no idea what to expect as I hadn't read the reviews or even the synopsis but I'm so so glad I read this. Anyhow it's a book I would recommend totally.

Great light read. Good in depth characters and an enjoyable story. While a 29 year old virgin is not THAT far fetched, a 29 year old woman that has never had an orgasm is just ridiculous! I mean, come on!!! Even with that, I enjoyed this book. It was free on Amazon and I am glad I took a chance on it. However....what is up with the cover? It has absolutely nothing to do with the story. The male character is a 6'3", 250 lb all muscle cowboy. This guy does NOT fit the bill! I think different cover Great light read. Jessica (Jess) is an amazing woman. Her family has made her hide who she is. Jake is a Rancher who has been burned by a past wife. Jess shows up at his ranch to design his new house. Jake is an ass to her because she is a woman. They bring the worst out in each other. Cody (Jake's best friend) tells both of them to try and be nice. They fall in love. Then the past shows up and causes problems. I enjoyed this book every much.

Jake and Jessica met under work circumstances, but things heated up on the first moment her met her. she was not supposed to be a woman, Her name was Jess. But she learned to take the heat of others thinking she was a man by Jess W not Jessica. But she is the best archetic and that is what he is getting whether he likes it or not. Rude, but she gives right back what he dishes. Up and down, but great love hate relationship.
