Frankly, this was my reaction as i reached around page 40, when the first twist in the tale appeared. I read a lot but I am usually not such a swift reader. It took me almost four days to complete this book and I wish I could have read it faster, it would have been more amazing. Some of the reviews mentioned that the religious take by Alcatraz was not acceptable at all, let me tell you he has brought out the concept of religion wonderfully. No where he has hurt anyone and at the same time he has Frankly, this was my reaction as i reached around page 40, when the first twist in the tale appeared. No where he has hurt anyone and at the same time he has sent out a message that is essential for all of us. The story takes you to Munich initially where the ihsin finds himself and then on a journey of self realization and his whereabouts he transcends on a journey that is a roller-coaster one. A unique dateline concept where chapters are marked with dates which is in sync to the the multiple timelines from past and present running throughout the story. A character that has survived through ages and his legacy with his serpents is brought out in close connection with the Protagonist Ihsin. The writing is fast paced, gripping and will leave you hooked to the book. Your mind will always be on the story, that's how intriguing it is. On after 100 pages you keep wondering what is going on and who is who? Twist after twist after twist, the mind gets confused and boggled. The story line is completely unpredictable and the best part is the chapters are small, they keep changing focus from one scenario to another and that really keeps your mind guessing and somehow brilliantly the author has linked multiple plot lines towards the end and with reasonable logic. The research that has gone into the book is out of this world. For that alone the book and the author deserve appreciation. what is more interesting is the connection between fact and fiction and how he has made the reader think. eg. The terrorist attacks in India in the past decade or so was brilliantly knitted in the plot and the death scene of Ajmal kasab. Sheer Brilliance. I took out the only star due to some bad editing at places, then again it is the editor's mistake. Still it is quite itchy and not expected from such a masterpiece fiction book. Special mention to the romance part of this thriller. Did not except such cute awesomeness in romance from a thriller story but the parts involving Ihsin and Sera were heart touching indeed and the way Ihsin never gives up despite all odds kind of makes you to fall in love with him. That brings to forth some really good character development.the story is such that characters keep changing their traits but never will you feel whats coming up ahead.. Final verdict Hoping for some more thrill packed plots with plethora of all emotions like these with a message that is so vital these days.

THE SERPENTINE SCROLLS is clearly one of the freshest concepts that I have across. Not only is it fresh, it is intriguing, exciting and entertaining. The way a perfect novel is supposed to be. Characters neatly trimmed just as much as required to the story, too much of thrill, just the correct amount of romance and drama and a constant battle between myth, fact and religion. The CREATOR is an awesome concept, one that we have always thought about and has been in our minds. It is not daily you come across a book that changes your perception on religion and still entertains you!!! Such books should not be mishandled and we should make sure all potential readers read it atleast once!!! 1. Once you start reading there is always an air of excitement and you yo start to feel this book is really going to be epic!!! The parallel plot of Hannah and his undertakings keep building the interest. Ihsin's uncanny character slowly gets to you and you start adoring him. Jebbar was the character who actually confused me. But then, that is what makes it a good thriller. You really cannot expect anything from any of the characters. You never know who will turm which way and when?!? 3. The main concept, the plot that becomes quite prominent during the Climax, Hannah and his lectures on religion and humanity!!! It all seems so accurate and logical. The author has precisely characterized Hannah. There is a particular line when he says " Perhaps the curse of immortality is not a curse after all, with all the suffering he has gained so much knowledge". The Concept of wisdom, knowledge and THE CREATOR is really phenomenal and I hope people get the point Alcatraz tries to make and not mock him. 4. The writing style is quite hardcore to say. Each character has been portrayed differently, but each character has a frustration inside him/her for which he/she are existing. The way it has been brought out is quite splendid. Like for Jebbar he was a confused man was used throughout the book to explain his mindset which was quite important to the plot. So, what I am trying to say is it is a good read, in fact a must read for every thriller and fiction fan!!! Youw ill definitely appreciate and love the efforts of the Author

My reading preferences were always constrained to genres like Chick lit, Romance and Young Adult. This is the first time I've tried something like this, and honestly, I'm hooked. This novel is the first of a series called "Colossal Adventure". The author has attempted to create a story that transcends history itself. He has mixed action, epic love, thrills, fantasy and philosophy to pack too much in one story. The plot (view spoiler)[starts with a tattooed young man waking up in a European city without knowing how he got there. He is brought back to India by some people impersonating an Israeli spy agency. A diabolical plot to destroy a major Indian metro has been cooking for more than 20 years. The terrorist planning this attack is being aided by none other than the head of Indian government herself. An Indian intelligence officer, whose wife has been killed by a trained rattle-snake, is trying to stop it. A couple of huge serpents have been living for several centuries, storing colossal amount of knowledge from all over the world. A man has been living for more than a couple of millennia, right since the times of Buddha, who has witnessed the lives of all the great persons including Buddha, Prophet Muhammad, Emperor Akbar, Aryabhatta, Saint Raghavendra, et al. The tattoos on the hero hide much other important information, too... They contain the clue to trace the whereabouts of the two colossal serpents, which could be deciphered by the colossal man himself, though he has been living in the same locality for centuries... After all these adventures, by the end of this book, the attack is yet to take place, or, is yet to be averted. (hide spoiler)] Several characters twist and turn so much that one is left wondering as to who is on which side. The philosophical discourse can be understood only by someone who is a lot more intelligent than me, as stated by another reviewer. I have so many questions, a few are as follows. (view spoiler)[ 1. What is the point of tattooing the map of the target city on a kid's body? 2. Why does the Jihad require two girls to carry out the suicidal attack? 3. Why does it take 22 years to plan the attack on the city? 4. Why is the presidential rule so important to carry out the attack on the city? 5. What is the point of storing "colossal" knowledge? 6. Why does the creator need "channelizing" of the colossal knowledge? (hide spoiler)] I found several proofing errors in this book. If the e-book I got is the same as the printed book, these errors would be there in that, too. Many 'spaces' are missing and several 'spaces' are there where they should not be. I had some issues with the usage of some words, as well. For instance, ‘conceived’ should have been used in place of ‘conceptualized’, ‘cheating on’ should be used only in sexual context, and so on. Unfortunately, I have not noted down each one of them… I am not able to form an opinion about this book… The author has written in so much detail about so many things, this book could have been great. But, the main problem is that the basic plot of the story itself is not convincing. Still, the story moves fairly well until the search for the colossal snakes begins, after which the way the seven clues are solved to locate the snakes borders on absurdity. As the story does not end in this book, the author has a chance to make it a lot better than it is at present. I am expecting that he will do a better job the next time.

Coming to the story, it is very confusing at the start where the author wants to take us - bombarding the reader with stories from times ranging from Jesus to modern day. Slowly a plot begins to shape up and it is quite interesting. There are a lot of twists and u-turns by many characters throughout the book. The author has tried to take the reader by surprise throughout the book. The author with his non-linear story line has tried to explain relations between the characters, but once the reader gets a hang of the book, he/she can easily predict the relationships. Also, the plot is predictable to some extent, and some flaws (Ex: people carrying on normal life during terrorist attack times) were found. All in all, it is a very nice try by the author to create something new on a topic that is so sensitive. The message he is trying to convey is a relevant one in the present day where people fight over each other's religious beliefs. The ending has left the reader (at least me) wanting for more. Waiting for the second in the series (and expecting a better book with more unpredictable stuff).

Writing a good thriller is always as tedious as it is interesting. One has to keep pace with the reader's psychology and alertness at every step, and I must say Alcatraz Dey has done a very fine job at that. 'Serpentine Scrolls' has a gripping start. I loved the book, everything about it. Honestly it had been a long time since I read something which so basically true and yet so provocative. Hats off to the author for maintaining the story line in an edgy and swiftly sketched manner. As far as the feel of the book is concerned, there are moments when you almost get a heart attack and there are moments when we think are humans justifiably the smarter ones... Hannah will remain in my mind for a long time.!!!!

Fortunately 250+ pages Of The Serpentine Scrolls is pure genius at work if anything else. It is like Robert Ludlum made love to Agatha Crhistie or even better A song of Ice and Fire meets Angels and Demons. I sincerely hope the author does not become a one book wonder. I sincerely do!!!! There were a lot of passages from the novel that i really loved a lot!!! "The dream is an essential part of human dynamism; it sprouts the creativity inside all of us and hinders the growth of downbeat ideologies." Some of the written visualizations are clearly on target and even some of the dialogues deserve an outstanding mention. What is clearly visible throughout the book is a constant usage of writing skill suitable for different characters. That too intertwine so many plots together would have taken the author millenniums and trying to justify each shocking plot turn would have been another heavy dosage of tiring work. The research is evident clearly. My advice to anyone who reads it is very simple. 1. Read it one go. it will take maximum 7-8 hours. You will be hooked anyways. 2. Preferably on a couch or on a travelling spree. 3. Make sure your heart and mind is synced. There are way too many shockers and I will not add any spoilers regarding the same. 4. It is a must read as it is written in a manner that really opens your mind. It is not just a thriller, it is a thriller that will play with your mind, excite you, make you sad, initiate your fear senses and finally leave a message inside your head. Honestly, after Escape by David Baldacci one of the best books I have read in 2015. “The creator is the universal power that guides and controls us all. In this present age, sometimes, we refuse to listen to him. That is where all these confusions arise. There is only one creator. People prefer to call him by different names. As I said earlier, people who are in power manipulate things according to their benefits. This is what has happened to mankind today. They do not believe in a single god. They will fight over religion, suffer through riots and see their loved ones massacred in front of their eyes, but they will not believe in a single god."

Overall Impression - The novel is a mystery thriller, written with elated thoughts and research. The book starts on a fantasy note, with the unbelievable story line but with supporting details extracted from History and a Religious book that brings in enough involvement. A breathtaking ride, with a different plot and definitely an excellent, winning try. What I loved about the book? – It's been the really long time that a book explained the depth of “Pain” and this book did it. Sincere appreciation to Alcatraz for taking genuine steps to add value to a fantasy book from elsewhere, and yes, one can’t skim through this book ever, it redefines the word “Interesting” as one can’t skip a line, once started. The love story, though the story lack enough information about what makes the protagonist Ihsin to feel so deeply, madly, and truly with his love life, taking “reader’s imagination” route, a real and attractive, intense desire, indeed, that makes one raise brows. The author’s brilliance is proven throughout the book, where his understanding of the nuances to hug the reader tight with plot knots, and twists. A bow to his skills. I loved the parts where the protagonist's transformation (Well, I don’t want to reveal anything in detail) and the “Feel of pain” is explained. Kudos!

A out of the box storyline by the author that really makes the novel a worthwhile read!!!! It is no doubt one of the finest thrillers with a hint of fantasy and reigiousness you will come across. Things get haywire towards end but the author has promised a book 2 so it makes the wait for book 2 more rewarding. A must read, even newbies will love the book. Kind of book through which you should start reading!!!!

Alctraz dey..little heard off till now and now his books are sure to top the charts. There are a few authors i follow in this genre and he will be the new addition. Personally satisfying and enriching book. Leave the suspense and twists alone. The take on religion is superb. I wish it were true. It really enriches your soul to think if there was only one creator. All in all a magnanimous effort that i loved. Would recommend to every one. It is not daily you read novels of such high calibre.

I will not tell you why this book is worth reading and getting thrilled. I will tell you how I read it and the emotions I went through reading this book. First of all, I received this book in paperback as part of Good-reads Author give-away. Perhaps I had expected a thin plotted, another attempt at writing some Internationally located out of control story. I should not have sincerely. It was around seven in the evening, a rainy Tuesday when i decided to crawl into my couch and give it a read. I I will not tell you why this book is worth reading and getting thrilled. Perhaps I had expected a thin plotted, another attempt at writing some Internationally located out of control story. I should not have sincerely. It was around seven in the evening, a rainy Tuesday when i decided to crawl into my couch and give it a read. I made a cup of coffee, and by the time the book finished it was 11:45 p.m. and I was five coffee mugs down, thanks to my lovely maid. I immediately wanted to message the author on Facebook author page and question him why does he leave everything in the hanging. There should be no Book 2 , everything should have been in a single book. That was my level of excitement. The 4 and something hours I spent on the book reading line after line, page after page were like a travel form the Pacific Highway through the Grand Canyon right upto Alaska. I felt sympathetic for Ihsin and yet proud of him for never giving up. I felt all those emotions a father feels reading about Jebbar. Then suddenly, I realised I was too quick to judge them all. That is when the fun began. Twist after twist, shock after shock, it kept growing. I have never been immmersed in a book like this from the past three months, when I had read The Tyrannosaurus Canyon by Hanning Menkell. Let me straight away get to the point and tell you the facts that were discussed and why you should read this. these are some of the facts that were discussed. I went through some of these and I would love readers to know the authenticity of them. 1. The Saint of Manchale is a reality. Manchale is the old name of Mantralaya, a small village in Andhra pradesh where according to folklore Saint Raghavendra still resides inside a vrindavan. 2. The last words of Jesus actually translate into different meanings in different languages. "Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. 46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, 'Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?' that is, 'My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?' " (Matthew 27:45-46, NASB) The English words ELI ELI (Strong's Concordance Number #G2241) in their literal meaning in the Greek language are "God, God." The meaning of the word LAMA (Strong's Concordance Number #G2982) is "Why." Lastly, the exact meaning of the word SABACHTHANI (Strong's Concordance Number #G4518) is "You have left (forsaken, abandoned) me." Strong's says that these Greek words are transliterations of Hebrew and Aramaic words. Transliteration is the attempt to make a word sound the same in another language. For the verse in question, the New International Version (NIV) has "Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani." The King James Version (KJV), New King James Version (NKJV), New American Standard (NASB) and the Holy Bible a Faithful Version render the phrase as "Eli Eli lama sabachthani." The NIV is the only popular Bible translation that says the first two words Jesus cried out are "Eloi Eloi." This phrase by Jesus is a quote taken from the book of Psalms, chapter 22. 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. (Psalm 22:1-2, NIV) Some in the crowd who heard Jesus cry out "Eli Eli . . ." from the cross thought he was calling on Elijah. Sadly, even those Jews who thought Jesus was crying out for Elijah, had NO compassion for him, but used what they thought they heard to taunt him. "Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, 'This Man is calling for Elijah!' Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink. The rest said, 'LET HIM ALONE; LET US SEE IF ELIJAH WILL COME TO SAVE HIM.'" (Matthew 27:47-49) "Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, 'Look, He is calling for Elijah!' Then someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying, 'LET HIM ALONE; LET US SEE IF ELIJAH WILL COME TO TAKE HIM DOWN.'" (Mark 15:35-36) Soon after Jesus spoke the words in Matthew 27, his perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world complete, he cries his last words: 46 Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, 'Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.' Having said this, he breathed his last." 3. There actually does not exist any hillock named Indradhanush, however there are references to a mythical place by the same name. That is all i could gather on the subject matter!!! 4. The entire concept behind Krishna Raj Puram is foolproof and can be actually used to bring it down. A mastermind plan by Alcatraz Dey indeed!!!! As described in the book, the metal description and everything is Bang on!!! 5. Hannah is indeed the scientific name of King Cobra--ophiophagus hannah. And all the stories of it travelling across the european continent to the nilgiris are believed to be true by historians. 6. Galileo was indeed in prison, however he was never ever visited by anyone in the prison, which of course is clarified in the later part of the book!!! There are many more facts and stats in the book which are all used in a manner that it seems it is real!!! A great attempt by Alcatraz and I must say I became a even huge fan after going through all the facts. Hoping for a better show next time!!!!

In the starting of the book, the author states that “History is proof that the humans have never esteemed the magnitude of religion”. This is the line which caught my attention and I came to know the entire agenda of the story. I have always been secular in my religious views and have always believed the concept of one God. The author made me feel connected to the story since the start. This is the line which caught my attention and I came to know the entire agenda of the story. I have always been secular in my religious views and have always believed the concept of one God. The author made me feel connected to the story since the start. Mr. Dey has created a mystery right in its first chapter and from the start I was mesmerized by the character “Ihsin”. It was a peculiar name given by the author to the protagonist of the story which intrigued me even more. The author has portrayed his character through “Ihsin” which has given this story a reality blended in fiction. The most admirable aspect is the characters and the inspiration behind them spoke about the reality which can make a reader believe that these things can actually be true. Unlike, other authors out there in our publishing industry, he didn’t use any flowery language or unnecessary long descriptions. Most impressive thing is that the chapters are divided in way that they keep readers inquisitive throughout. They switch from one scenario to another and link from one situation to another. Technique used by the author to keep the readers intact is brilliant. The usage of language is simple yet gripping. The narration is spectacular. I would like to tell that he has actually restored my faith in Indian authors. The story revolves around the beautiful silk city, Bangalore. I have been to Bangalore, two years before and since then I have a unique fondness towards this city. There were few mentions of my hometown “Lucknow” and the mere mention of my hometown filled my heart with an unexplained ecstasy. Author’s research about snakes and the historical aspects is clearly visible in the entire book. In my opinion, an honest book is always appreciable. I have connected to the characters of the book and surprisingly, Ihsin’s geeky nature has rendered me speechless, parts of his life are related to mine is some or the other way. The impeccable timings of the romance part of the thriller are the best part of the book. Wherever, the things go too heavy and serious, there, comes the cute love story to bring upon a smile on your face and lighten up your mood. Just like in some horror movies, the director keeps a sweet song which lulls you to change your course of thinking. The seven snakes and the mystery behind them will actually awestruck a reader. I was bewildered by the twists and turns but as the story unfolds itself I was even more astounded than before. The mention of Alexander and Sushruta Samhita was incredible. As I was into reading since my childhood, I relived those moments when I was a geeky girl with two ponies sitting in the library of my school most of the time. The reminiscences of the past engulfed me and made me turn more pages. Later, I found my favorite subject “religion” being explained so beautifully. The concept of the CREATOR was remarkable. I truly admire the author’s way of presenting these concepts. I believe the people who read this book will start believing in the oneness of all the religions. I thank my stars that I am a science student otherwise I wouldn’t have understood the calculations done by “Shahid” to screw up with the landing system of the airport. By the way, I really haven’t understood but still being aware of the terminologies is more than enough. In the last, where “Hannah” deciphers all the clues from the tattoos on “Ihsin’s” body was the part which I loved the most. I have always been drawn towards the mystery books since my childhood and it was really great reading an Indian author coming up with such a great thriller. Things I didn’t like- The newborn “Hannah” was butchered by Jebbar, I mean c’mon! How can he be killed by a terrorist? He was supposed to be divine. I didn’t really see it coming. I hope he is not dead and in the sequel he rises from the dead. The repetition of the paragraphs, where Ihsin and Jebbar transformed. I guess it was not necessary after a while. The cover design of the book. Though, it doesn’t matter, it seemed like a comic book to me. The bad editing was a big turn down but I appreciate the author, with all the flaws kept aside he managed a great book. The characters, the suspense, the thrill and the hidden mystery make me stealthily wait for the sequel “The sacrilege of Annie”. I would have ranted more on the appreciation of the book and my fingers wouldn’t have stopped but everything ends eventually.

I am a huge stephen king man and it takes a lot to shake me from my roots. The serpentine scrolls is good because from page 1 you are reeled in. you have questions in your mind.
