Only the voices whispering in her ear tells her what she needs to know. How to remain safe, or hide the ugly secrets. She calls them the voice of reason, granting her sanctuary in a hellish nightmare. Her grim story unfolds at the tender age of thirteen, what should have been perceived as the best years of her life. Filled with cheer leading, hanging out with friends and doing what normal girls her age does instead of trying to fight off a monster. This is not a tale of happy endings or for the feint of heart with triggers. It's intensively dark, disturbing with graphic scenes. Angel Gelique takes you out of your cushy comfort zone, pressing boundaries in this amazing follow up sequel. Happy reading!

I had to stop at 67% I found myself skipping parts that were too brutal and made me start to weep - in fact by the time I got to about 40% - I was skipping more than I was reading - so with a heavy heart - I can not finish this book. I can read everything from my famous book COWS to PNR to HR - shit just about anything. I don't know why this book cut me so deep? I did though find myself psychoanalyzing Hillary (yeah my college degree comes in handy for something) She is the product of inherited genes and traumatic events which exasperated her symptoms of psychosis - this book explains a lot of why Hillary is the way she is. Did I feel bad when she killed her dad? FUCK NO Did I feel bad when she hurt the dog? OMG...I sobbed Did I feel bad when she hurt others? Yeah but not as much as the damn dog. Shit...I'm one of those people who can't watch those damn ASPCA commercials on TV without crying. I felt for Hillary - I wished someone would have heard her. Would she be the way she was if someone listened? Probably not unless there was another event later in life that switched her gears. She mainly could have ended up just like her father with the dominant characteristic.... Shit...sorry - here I am doing it again. Ms. Gelique - please do not take offense of me not being able to finish this book - it is not your writing or your story....it just hit a bit too close to home. I will continue the story - and proceed to #3 - Per my besties, Jenna, Jahy and Carla....they promise me I will be able to make it through.

This book will take you down into the depths of despair and could possibly psychologically mess you up as the story drives deep into the human soul while ripping out your heart with the gory infested contents within its pages. With all that being said, the second book in the Hillary series is really the background story for what made Hillary become the stark, raving, lunatic she became in the first book. I thought the first book was a step into gory infested terror, but the first book was mild compared to this one. It starts out with a seemingly happy round about family, but underneath the facade there is a storm brewing. Hillary's father is the reason for her becoming insane as he molests Hillary without anyone else being aware of it in the family. This molestation goes on for a very long time and even though Hillary cries out to her mother for help, she finds no help as no one believes her. She does not go to any authorities as her father has threatened her, so she suffers and suffers until she starts hearing voices in her head that it has to stop. When the voices start talking to her, that is when it all hits the fan and she goes on a revenge spree into a gore infested unknown spiral of craziness! Everything you thought you could handle in a gore infested book will give you a test of just how much depravity you think you could endure. Even for a true blue horror fan this is a raw, gritty, twisted, sick ride of mental horror into the lowest depths of hell that you could ever imagine and if you are not a horror fan, then I would tread carefully as you will be wading through so much blood and gore, you will need a barf bag attached to your neck as you make your way through the chapters. So read the reviews and the warnings before you embark on this crazy, twisted ride of lunacy as if you don't then you will be slapped in the face with a gory body part. For the true blue horror fans out there, buckle up as you are in for the most twisted, gory, perverted, immoral depths of a hellish ride you have ever encountered. Probably wasn't a good thing reading it before bed, but I can truthfully say that I didn't have nightmares, so I guess that could mean that being a true blue horror fan it didn't affect me. Five stars for keeping me reading till the early hours of the morning. (To Angel: Thanks for the ride as I felt like I was on a roller coaster of twisted fear to hell and back!)

I have to give kudos to the author, for surprising me throughout the book,I didn't know what to expect and boy was I screaming a few times, NO!! and thinking this is just wrong. I hated Hillary's mother, someone in my opinion who is as big of a monster as her dad. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke) I will read book 3, I'm eager to see how this will be wrapped up, but first I'm taking a break and reading a romance; Hillary ruined me.

This series so far has been disturbing on so many levels. The premise was such, so I decided to go ahead anyway. No child should ever experience such atrocities. We see her go through the motions and are there with her when she reaches her breaking point. Her coping mechanism and justification for the rampage she embarks on is nothing more than psychotic. Did the author go above and beyond in describing these acts? Absolutely! Is it not a writers objective to push boundaries, to take you to a place you normally would not venture to, good or bad? I say it is. As graphic and hideous these scenes were, I get it. Didn't like it, but I get it. Hillary lost all sense of humanity, was broken, mind, body and soul. She was beyond repair and wanted to exact her retribution on those she felt failed her...boy did she ever! I forged ahead with this in spite of having read book description, can't say I wasn't warned. Yet there are no regrets here. Have not had much of an appetite because of the gory scenes but I would definitely read again, in a heartbeat.

DNF at 78% I have gone crazy!! It was just too much at the end. I'm glad that we have finally found out how Hillary became monster in the first place. This is actually a first book about her previous life, before she was held captive as a Dr. Morrison's experiment. I felt sorry for her, but being in her crazy mind wasn't easy. I couldn't stand all that killing anymore. I got a little bored too. The previous book was also a bit of mind-fuck and I liked it more. I can totally understand why this would be too much for the majority of the population of earth. I'm afraid it was totally up my alley though. Gore, incest, blood, cannibalism, torture and all kinds of taboos - everything a girl could want. I was ecstatic. Over the moon

This was the single most horrifying books I've EVER read. At one point (actually there was two times) I actually cried. I almost dnf'd it. Not because of the story or the writing. Those are great. It's what happens. I was heartbroken for Hillary and furious with her mother. It was tragic from page one. I can't help myself, I am still going to read the third book. I need to know what happens. That warning is there for a reason!

After reading Tail of the Dog (the first book in Angel Gellique's Hillary trilogy) I came to the conclusion that it was one of the most disturbing books I'd ever read. Perhaps the most disturbing, even. So, being the masochistic glutton for punishment that I am, I immediately threw myself headfirst into the next book in the series. Well, the sequel/prequel Flesh and Blood makes Tail of the Dog seem more like The Tale of Peter Rabbit by comparison. This book was brutal. Absolutely fucking brutal. Well, the sequel/prequel Flesh and Blood makes Tail of the Dog seem more like The Tale of Peter Rabbit by comparison. This book was brutal. Absolutely fucking brutal. I had to resort to taking breaks between chapters due to elevated levels of nausea, which made progress a slow and often torturous affair. Did I mention how brutal this book was? Yet, despite this, I'm glad that I made it through to the end. The tragedy that underpins the events of this story cannot be downplayed, and I felt myself cycling through a huge range of emotional responses to the characters and events in this book - from sympathy, to disgust, all the way to oh-my-fucking-god-this-is-utterly-insane-and-I'd-really-just-like-to-go-now-please. Gellique harnesses the very darkest elements of human nature to paint a relentless portrait of how monstrous deeds beget monsters of their own. I couldn't help but think that this must have been a true test of sheer will to put into words, at times. One final note: If you're planning on starting this series, do heed the warnings in the blurb. Seriously.

I read the first book in this series and it was just about the most disturbing thing I'd read... until now, when I read part 2. Jesus. H. Christ! Honestly the stuff that Hillary goes through - and has gone through, and is involved with - should happen to no one - and certainly no child. Reading these books is almost like watching a car crash. You know you should stop looking, should just turn and walk away, but the trauma keeps your eyes glued to the action. The writing is eloquent, visual, and engaging. Her skill is more than adequate for the horror/thriller genre. And it smelled like the author truly tried to show some sort of emotional journey for Hillary...then decided, "screw it, it's torture porn all the way". There's nothing there to elevate the gore to art. It develops into merely a big, flat canvas splattered in viscera. Even in that, the author realized it was all she had left, and (view spoiler)[desperately scrambled to find other victims, after Hillary had run out of family members, in a lame and half-assed attempt to keep the body count up. You start off there, caring for her, then...not so much. I believe in the whole "eye for an eye" thing, but this went titanically overboard. I read it, though, all the way through, as well as Book One, which follows this one chronologically. If an orgy of entrails with no justification is your thing, feel free. Otherwise, there's no point, really. There's no hint at all of a rainbow at the end of this steaming cauldron. Maybe in Book Three there can be some (possible) cathartic emotional breakthrough...? Angel Gelique does an amazing job of delving into the human psych to illustrate the potential evil humans are capable of inflicting upon others. Although it’s hard to fathom the rationality behind the acts of monstrosity Hillary commits following her inevitable mental decline, you can’t help but wonder if anyone would have gone crazy given her circumstances. Hillary felt powerless for years during her abuse, and the torture she inflicted on her victims allowed her to regain the sense of control she lost during those fragile years. I absolutely love this series. Every book is a real page-turner from start to finish and I guarantee if you read this you will not want to put it down until you’re finished. I’m looking forward to October 31 for the gruesome conclusion to Hillary’s trilogy ;)

After months of agony she confides in her mother who refuses to help her. Alone and angry, Hillary discovers a new friend inside her head who knows exactly how to make everyone listen to her. In book one we see the psycho that Hillary became and there was no real sympathy for her or her actions but this prequel novel shows how a good, normal teenage girl becomes that twisted monster because of the abuse she has been subjected to. Her gradual descent into madness was gripping and compelling, seeing the girl you have sympathy for inflicting horrific cruelty on her family and former friends. I had no sympathy for Michael or Kathy for their part in Hillary's appalling experiences but I felt sorry for her brother and sister who really had done nothing wrong. And poor Storm! I couldn't even READ that scene because I love beagles and I didn't want to see it in print! We get more opportunity to see what kind of girl Hillary was before the abuse and how Michael's reign of terror affected firstly Kathy and then his daughter. Kathy is a sympathetic figure at the start of the book when you see the monster that Michael was, manipulating, violent, bullying, leaving her with no self esteem or mind of her own. It is when she betrays her daughter that my sympathy for her ended. Hillary herself is a bit of a pantomime villan through the book and I did laugh at a few of her twisted comments during the torture. Not sure what that says about my personality! This book will appeal to horror fans who like the Jack Ketchum/Edward Lee kind of twisted gorefest. The plot as before is brutal and gory with scenes of rape, incest, cannibalism, torture and death. If you don't have a strong stomach, don't go there! I'm looking forward to seeing the continuation of Hillary's story and will also be keen to see what else the author writes in the future.

The story of Hillary interested me from the first book. I was looking forward to reading this and seeing what kind of sick shit Hillary got up to. This book didn't disappoint. I'm not going to give you a run down of the story as that is done above, but it was good to see why Hillary became the way she is. However, one thing that irritated the shit out of me was the un believability of her mother. It is totally not convincing that her mother accepted Hillarys strange behaviour - despite her mother being an abused woman. I didn't think this was believable at all and it made the story a little weak. As mentioned above, I'm a huge gore fan and I love disturbing books and movies. However the scene where Hillary cuts off her brothers penis - and when she rapes a baby with a knife, were just over the top and totally unnecessary. Had these things have happened to an adult character (the cutting of the penis did happen to Hillary's father), I probably wouldn't have cared. But to do this to babies - even though it's fiction, is (in my opinion), grasping at straws in order to merely shock or repulse the reader. It wasn't shocking to me but repulsive in that I thought it was a cheap trick. I just found it wasn't needed to make the reader feel that Hillary was totally unhinged - we already knew that. Overall those two scene above ruined the book for me - that and the fact her mother wasn't a believable character. I personally liked the rest of the book, the gore was good, Hillary was insane and it was enjoyable. If those two scenes had been different then I probably would have liked it more.

Better written than the first book, but it's also out of order. I think I understand why, the first 30% of the book makes you feel sorry for good old Hillary. If I would have read this first, I may not have felt the same about Tail of the Dog. That said, the rundown of gruesomeness is as follows: Dad - Penis bitten then chopped off with pruning shears, stabbed in the neck, dismembered, put in hefty bags and eventually dumped in the woods So read this last night and wish I had not. That said, the rundown of gruesomeness is as follows: Dad - Penis bitten then chopped off with pruning shears, stabbed in the neck, dismembered, put in hefty bags and eventually dumped in the woods for the birds to eat. I get this one. BTW - She eats his weiner like a piece of kobayashi beef. (Step Brothers) Lee Lee - Bad stuff, the removal of the eyelids was just about enough for me to stop reading. Joshy - poor baby, penis bit off and bled to death, chopped up, made a stew and baked his head. Mom - She lives, but what's the point, she just gets killed in the first book after she's made to eat a mom sandwich. She also eats some Joshy stew. There's not enough Welbutrin in the world to make this one okay. Chelsea - 10 month old baby - throat slit - quick death Chyna - Chelsea's twin sister - 10 Months too, but that goes without saying - Fingers and toes cut off and then vaginally impaled on a knife as long as her. Holy cow, this author is sick. Jax, the 15 year old sister of the twins - forced to witness all this and then doused in gasoline and set ablaze - FIRE!! Poor Mrs. Sutton - She just wanted to help - at least she had a quick death - throat slit Laura - She got away Maddie - she was not so smart, trusted the Po-Po and was the last victim, Hillary goofed and killed her quick at least. So, all in all, this is a sick, vile, contemptible tale of what might just really happen in the big wide world. I am also very afraid of Ms. Angel Gelique. Seriously, this person is fucked up, but I am off to amazon for book 3.

Flesh and Blood gives you a glimpse of how Hillary became the person she is today. This story depicts how a father's actions altered his daughter's life, and the way she decided to compensate for the abuse. If she had not experienced the abuse she received at home, she just might have turned out differently. We find that the pattern of abuse did not begin with Hillary. The one person she expected to help her also suffered at the hands of her father, and their denial of the situation causes Hillary to fall deeper into despair. Hillary then resorts to other methods to voice herself and regain a sense of power. Angel Gelique continues her bold storytelling, and touches on topics few want to, or prefer to ignore. You will likely not read a book like hers for a while! Flesh and Blood is a great read which holds your interest. Some scenes are cringeworthy, but in a good way... in the "I can't believe this is happening" kind of way. I could feel the anger and hatred Hillary felt towards her family, as well as her anguish that no one was coming to her aid. This book had me emotionally vested, to the point that I wanted to scream at Hillary to confide in someone who wasn't a family member so her suffering could end. If you are tired of reading the same kind of book over and over again, read this book! You definitely will not be bored.

I won this book through a First Reads Goodreads giveaway. Let me begin by saying if you are weak in the stomach this is probably not the book for you. However, If you love a good horror, sociopath kind of story this is some excellent reading for you! Hillary: Flesh and Blood is about a teenager who has been dealt a shitty hand of cards in life. Her father deals out some abuse that no girl should have to deal with. Hillary asks for help but no one will listen and no one believes her. Hillary becomes someone that your worst nightmares could not fathom. Parts were very hard to read for me because I have a child of my own, and left me praying my child would never have to endure these things in life. That is what made it such a rich horror for me because it leaves you with your mouth hanging open in awe and the horrors that occur. Angel Gelique is a fascinating author and can put you right in the scene of some of the most horrific topics you will even encounter in life and leave you up at night checking the locks on your windows and doors!

Never in my life have I read such a gory, perverted, sick, and scary book............and I could not put it down. I thought "Hillary" book 1 was tough to read but this one far out does that one. I actually had to put the book down and step away a few times just to take a breather. I felt physically sick reading about the young brother and the twins. Am I depraved for liking this story? Not for the faint of heart or stomach.

The first novel in this series was a total mind fuck and because I was so enraptured in the mystery of it I managed to gag my way through all the disgusting blood and gore...but this one I just can't. The 6 chapters I managed to get through were details of Hillary's backstory and I was able to stay with her through the terrible torturous acts of her father and I was able to stay with her through the despicably weak actions of her mother, I about lost it when she attacked the dog...not cool... but I celebrated when she took down that rat bastard ass dad of hers...it was when she tied up her fucking sister that I had to stop....I understand that Hillary lost her damn mind and that is the point of the whole fucking story and the brilliant writing did manage to make it fascinating in a way...but horror has never been my genre of choice... I prefer a good psychological suspense with a mostly happy end...and that's not where this story was headed not in the slightest...my heart (and stomach) can't take it I had to say goodbye to Hillary before Caliegh could meet her untimely end. Update 5/10/16: Have you ever put down a book without finishing only to have it haunt you for months at every opportunity...me neither, until now that is. I can't stop think about this book. At first I thought it was because it scared the ever loving shit out of me (which it totally did) but honestly I think it's because some sick twisted part of me just has to know what happens...Damn you Angel Gelique for being such an amazing writer...if I throw up trying to endure this thing just know it's all your fault.....and thus I pick back up with Hillary where I left off...with her fucking sister tied up in her bedroom. FINAL REVIEW 5/12/16: I finished it...I have never read a book like this before...mostly because I usually try to steer clear of stories that are guaranteed to give me nightmares for the rest of my life. But here I am, I couldn't leave this one alone, so many months not knowing, randomly thinking about what happens to Hillary, needing to know the gruesome details I thought I could live without....Angel Gelique has a true gift because nothing like that has ever happened to me before, typically if I am done with a story then I am just that DONE...but no, not this one, not Hillary...Honestly I would be more than eager to read anything she has written no matter the genre or subject matter because I can almost guarantee it would be brilliant...but I'm a pussy and I'm terrified to start another story like this and not be able to escape it once again.....seriously bitch made pussy and I am unashamed to admit it. But regardless here I am and now I know exactly how Hillary ended up where she did in Tail of the Dog....At one point during this book I compared myself to a kid watching a horror movie with his hands over his eyes, peaking through his fingers because as badly as he wants to look away something is telling him he has to watch...that is exactly how this book made me feel, exactly why I couldn't walk away from it no matter how hard I tried....I both loved and hated this book so much...GOD THE FUCKING BABIES.....I literally tried to skip the whole scene with Joshy...I just can't even think about it any more...excuse me while I read something full of warm and fuzzies before having to inevitably jump into the final book in this fucked up trilogy....You're surprised I plan to read the next one?...you shouldn't be I don't care if cry like a bitch during the whole thing I have to know how this thing end!!
