This book seems to be a waste of time. `This Day in History' seemed like filler. What possible use do I have for "Top Songs?" But the worst of the lot had to be "Movie Classics." Who needs AARP"s advice on what movie to watch? The only things of value I found were the extensive list of `Seasonal Best Buys" and the `Scam of the Month.' `TV Trivia' is another useless addition; I can't believe anyone would pay money for this waste of paper. This is fun to read for dates that are important to know, what time of year is the best time to buy certain items, and even some history tidbits thrown in. These things put together help you get the best out of the year. Need to buy a lawnmower? This book will tell you the best time of year to get that lawnmower. (Just an example, may not be an exact noted thing in the book.) How handy is that information though?! Especially to homeowners. I am glad I had this book. I bought things at the right time, like jeans. Who knew they are cheaper at certain times of the year?! This almanac did, that's who! So I urge you to check out the 2014 version. It is more geared to Americans, their history and sales and such, but is beneficial all around really.

This book has really good information on where to get free things throughout the year. Some things are for AARP members only (I'm not a member), but most of them are for everyone. I learned about a couple new freebie sites and some neat things that go on during the year, such as a book and film festivals in Washington DC. It also has random trivia facts about movies and historic events. If you'd like to learn were and how to get free things, this would be a good place to start. A haphazard-feeling collection of almanac staples such as on-this-day-in-history, lists of seasonal sale items and the like, plus articles on upcoming bills before Congress, Medicare application information, and some remarkably unappealing recipes.

I enjoyed the short stories in the beginning. I believe we can always learn from the older generation. I didn't get the tips and other tidbits.
