Not Mr.bierce's best but in no way his worst.

Upon visiting an old friend, the narrator finds him much, and distressingly changed. Sick and alone, in an eerie house that seems haunted, he tells a cautionary tale... The moral here may be, 'carpe diem,' but Bierce also gets in a bit about the foolishness of the 'upper class' giving themselves airs.

When she finally met up with him after all of these years, she became disappointed with what has happened to him. The main character feels as if her friend Dampier is going through a downhill path and she doesn’t like the outcome of how he has changed. She says, “how deeply his prescience of death affected me”. Dampier has a neighbor who taps on his wall everyday to get his attention and he falls in love with her. Dampier becomes desperate when trying to find out what happened to the tapping noises once they stopped. My book did not entertain me as I thought it would have because I think it was too short of a story. At the end of the story I was in a bit of a shock to the way his life became how it became. I wish the author should have put the reason why Dampier was like that in the beginning of the story because throughout the story, I was wondering what happened to him. Overall, I would suggest this story to others because the book told about a story of someone who was not in a good situation and how they overcame it. After reading this book, I will maybe read an actual book instead of a short story because short stories aren’t as interesting as I thought they would be. Choosing a specific genre from a book or short story would make me more interested in reading the story.

A man's fixation on a beautiful young girl living next door is cut short when she dies. After her passing he continues to hear tapping on the conjoining wall between their bedrooms.

Sometimes Bierce really frightens me in his stories, especially when the terror he writes is the psychological one. The Man Out the Nose is one of them. Three other points in Bierce attract me: the atmosphere where the stories happen; the haunted houses in uninhabited forests are the supernatural. On the other hand, there are two points that separate me from his work: the often documentary narrative and the size of the short stories, because I simply would like that the script and the characters Sometimes Bierce really frightens me in his stories, especially when the terror he writes is the psychological one. The environments he describes are so dark and mysterious that they deserve more history :) This tale does not scare, but the setting involves.

The plot of this story was fascinating but I feel that it dragged on too much.

The short story I have read today is called Beyond The Wall by Ambrose Bierce. This book is a short horror story. Mohun Dampire was a very sensitive guy but he turned into a thin angular figured man his face is deeply lined and his skin color was dead-white. this short story was mostly about Dampire and the young women in the white dress but resulted that he did not try to pursue her due to that they were not of equal class. The conflict that drives this story is that they communicated each other through the wall by knocking on it. Dampire knocked on the wall and she responded by a knock back. For a while they went back and forth knocking on the wall knowing what they were doing. He one day stopped receiving that knock back Dampire soon got disappointed and overlooked what had happened between him and the young women. One day Dampire heard a knock but him feeling aggrieved, he choose to ignore the times she knocked back. The resolution to the problem posed in the story was satisfying due to its deep dark feeling it has. This book was very entertaining, it was entertaining due to how much I like reading dark scary books and I loved the ending. It was also very entertaining due to that I read it at 12 am, while I was reading it I would hear noises around my house. The book absolutely meet my expectations. The book got me interested as soon as I started reading the first sentence. I believe the chooses the author made on writing this book were perfect due to how interested it got me into the short story, no book or short story is really able to catch my attention as quick as this short story did. I would definitely recommend this short story because you would be amazing and get chills due to what happens in the story and once you are done with the story.

However, in Beyond the Wall there's a vicious, seaside storm and the creaking is a rapping at a back wall. The old friends, one a businessman who has spent many years in Asia and the other an occult researcher that inherited old money, sit to chat only to be interrupted by the rapping. Thus, the researcher enlightens his old friend of the haunting explanation behind the noise and how happy he is that his friend can hear it, too. Bierce uses vocabulary I rarely read or hear, so I appreciate that ClassicShorts.com links uncommon words to a dictionary, sparing me the simple effort of opening a new tab and entering the word into the search box myself. The story has an eerie atmosphere and offers more among the horror genre than the events the researcher shares as the main story within this story. It is overall an enjoyable read.

I first read 'Beyond the Wall' when I was a teenager. It takes place on a cold winter night in San Francisco. Its about a love that was not to be, regret and a supernatural tapping on a wall. Short story is also found at: online-literature.com

Someone's good when a story that everyone says isn't too good by them is still better than most things by other people.
